  1. A Guide is loyal and can be trusted.
  2. A Guide is helpful.
  3. A Guide is polite and considerate.
  4. A Guide is friendly and a sister to all other Guides.
  5. A Guide is kind to animals and respects all living things.
  6. A Guide is obedient.
  7. A Guide has courage and is cheerful in all difficulties.
  8. A Guide makes good use of her time.

Girl Guiding was officially started in 1912 with the registration of a Girl Guide Company in Mutare (then Umtali).

From 1912 – 1967, because of the status of the country as a Colony of the UK, Guiding fell under the umbrella of UK Guiding and was covered by their Constitution.

1967- 1969, the then Girl Guide Association of Rhodesia was working towards, and successfully attained Tenderfoot status (Associate Membership) of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The Association’s first Constitution as an independent organisation from the UK was formulated.

In 1972, The Girl Guide Association of Rhodesia was admitted to Full Membership of WAGGGS.

In 1980, when the country gained its political independence from Britain, the Association’s name was changed to The Girl Guides Association of Zimbabwe.

  • The Emblem of the Girl Guides Zimbabwe consists of:

    • A Trefoil with the National Emblem of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Bird, superimposed on it. • The three leaves of the Trefoil represent the three parts of the Promise.
    • In the top leaf is a five-pointed star with ten angles (in and out) representing the ten Laws.
    • In the left and right leaves are the letters GG standing for Girl Guides. The word Zimbabwe is in the scroll at the base of the trefoil. In 2014 this emblem replaced the original emblem which had been in use since 1912.
